Kodak’s stock, nonetheless, fell 21 cents, or 8.5 percent, to $2.30 in afternoon trading Tuesday — its lowest level since March 2009 — amid signs of rising investor concern over its ability to fund a long and painful turnaround.

In a ruling late Monday, the U.S. International Trade Commission’s six-judge panel affirmed a preliminary decision in May that Kodak’s technology doesn’t infringe on Apple’s patent rights and that one of the two patents in dispute is invalid.

The decision comes weeks after the commission kept open Kodak’s high-stakes case against iPhone behemoth Apple and Research In Motion Ltd., maker of BlackBerry smartphones…..

So I decided to treat myself to something up to the demands of today’s no-nonsense golf environment.

Shopping for a camera can be overwhelming. To make my search manageable, I looked only at small cameras designed to withstand water, frost, bunker sand, August heat, bag-room attendants and cart collisions. I narrowed my selection to three — any of which I’d be unashamed to recommend.

The Canon PowerShot D10 ($300) is the bulkiest of the cameras I tried. It’s also oddly anatomical in shape, so that carrying it in a shirt pocket can make a male golfer look like a candidate for a manssiere. But it’s waterproof to the depth of the pond on the fourth hole, and you can drop it from a grillroom bar.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 16 — Kodak’s Film, Photofinishing and Entertainment Group (FPEG) announced that it is adjusting its pricing model to address the recent volatility in the commodities market, especially as it relates to the steep increase in silver prices over the last several months. FPEG constitutes the company’s portfolio of film and paper products, and relies on silver as a key raw material.

According to Kodak, the unprecedented rise in silver – along with escalating pulp and petroleum costs – necessitates that it structure its pricing in a way that responds to the rapid fluctuations in today’s commodities market.

“We’ve seen some very steep curves in commodity pricing recently, including an extraordinary rise in cost of silver,” said Brad Kruchten, President FPEG, and Kodak Senior Vice President. “As such, we need to adjust our own pricing on a more frequent basis to deal with these market fluctuations.”

“Over the last 4-5 weeks, we started implementing dynamic pricing plans across our various market segments that reflect the rapidly changing cost of commodities – especially that of silver,” he added. “This variable pricing structure will continue for paper, film, and printed circuit board films with ongoing, periodic adjustments – both upward and downward – based upon the period average commodity prices.”

Because a majority of the silver contained within the company’s color film and paper products is removed during processing, the company has been able to work within certain industry segments to implement a closed-loop variable pricing structure to mitigate the affect on end-user pricing.

“Kodak is committed to the imaging marketplace,” added Kruchten. “This adjustable pricing model is a critical component in today’s volatile commodities market for the large-volume production of consumables such as film and paper, enabling us to continue to serve our customers with the quality products and services they have come to expect from the Kodak brand.”

A 3D print from Kodak’s new photo printer. By Eric A. Taub – NY Times Kodak, the company that brought photography to the masses, as well as the ability for amateurs to develop and print pictures at home, is now bringing 3-D to the standard pictures you print from your digital camera. At last week’s Consumer Electronics Show, the company showed off the new, as-yet-unnamed capability, which will be included as part of the feature set of its new $100 ESP C310 model, to be introduced this spring. The all-in-one printer will come with two paper-frame 3-D glasses in Kodak’s signature bright yellow design, along with special 3D-processing software and instructions. To create a 3-D image, users will be instructed to shoot the same scene twice, with the second offset about 2 to 3 inches from the first. A Kodak spokesman suggested a good way to do that would be to shoot the first looking through one eye, and the second through the other. The processing software (Windows only; Macs need not apply) will then meld the two images into one frame that can be printed. The resulting image will look just like any 3-D picture, with two images slightly [...]

Kodak, the company that brought photography to the masses, as well as the ability for amateurs to develop and print pictures at home, is now bringing 3-D to the standard pictures you print from your digital camera.

At last week’s Consumer Electronics Show, the company showed off the new, as-yet-unnamed capability, which will be included as part of the feature set of its new $100 ESP C310 model, to be introduced this spring.

The processing software (Windows only; Macs need not apply) will then meld the two images into one frame that can be printed. The resulting image will look just like any 3-D picture, with two images slightly apart from each other.

The 3-D effect is created uses the anaglyph process: the 3-D glasses contain a red and cyan filter, just like the 3-D comics of old.

And like those old comic books, the effect created using Kodak’s anaglyph glasses is poor, and virtually unviewable after a few seconds. The image shimmers unpleasantly, and what one sees is not so much depth of rounded objects, but rather a series of flat planes that appear to be at different distances. The effect is nothing like what can be seen from a 3-D television.

Based on the sample images available at Kodak’s exhibit, I doubt that the 3-D printing feature will do little, if anything, to boost the company’s printer sales.
