In addition to the solar camcorder, prize winners will receive: an Olympus Stylus Tough digital camera, a Kodak EasyShare M590 digital camera and a Cobra Digital HDVC5100 digital camcorder with a gadget bag and tripod. All entrants will receive a discount code to purchase a CEA Tech Enthusiast (CEATechEnthusiast.com) membership for $29 (regularly $49), which provides access to insider information on the latest tech trends, monthly contests and discounts from tech companies.

The contest’s eco-friendly awards highlight the green innovation underway in the consumer electronics industry. Along with innovation in making green products, the industry has also made huge strides in energy efficiency. A recent CEA study, Power Consumption Trends in Digital TVs Produced Since 2003 (February 2011), found power consumption of the average TV sold in 2010 consumes less energy than a 100 watt incandescent light bulb – less power than what is needed to light a typical living room. For the complete report, please go to CE.org/green.

More consumer electronics industry success stories on the environmental front include:

The CE industry recycled about 200 million pounds in 2009, and we estimate that figure rose 50 percent to 300 million in 2010.

Currently, there are more than 5,000 permanent collection sites available nationwide from our member companies. You can find a nearby drop-off site at DigitalTips.org.

Currently, more than 27,000 CE product models meet ENERGY STAR specifications.
